Governor Mary Fallin announced Wednesday (January 19) she has  selected Preston Doerflinger to serve as director of the Office of State Finance (OSF). He will also become her secretary of finance, a cabinet level position.

As director of OSF, Preston will help prepare the governor’s executive budget as well as help oversee the implementation of her  fiscal policies. Doerflinger currently serves as city auditor in Tulsa, where he leads the Management Review Office tasked with the implementation of the policy recommendations presented by a KPMG study of government services.

“Preston Doerflinger is a successful businessman and, as city auditor of Tulsa, he’s dedicated himself to ensuring our tax dollars are used wisely,” Fallin said. “Preston has specialized expertise in analyzing operations and extensive experience in budgeting, accounting, auditing and financial oversight of various types of businesses. I know he’ll be a great addition to our team and I’m happy to have him serve in my cabinet.”

Before being elected city auditor of Tulsa in 2009, Doerflinger was the chief executive officer of PLD Management, a business consulting and investment firm he founded.  Prior to that, he helped found several health care consulting and supply companies across Oklahoma.

“I know Governor Fallin is committed to making state government run more efficiently and effectively in order to save taxpayers money and to improve the services delivered to our citizens,” Doerflinger said. “I’m honored to serve in her cabinet and look forward to working with her on the budget and other fiscal issues.”

Doerflinger holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Southern Nazarene University, where he graduated with honors. He serves on the Board of Visitors for Rogers State University as well as the Rogers State University Innovation Center Advisory Board.

The Tulsa World named Doerflinger one of five “people to watch in 2011.”

He is a life-long Oklahoman and lives in Tulsa with his wife Jill and son Kros.
